Navigating a High-Profile Incident:
Understanding Harm, Supporting Survivors, and Mobilizing Communities

When a case of child sexual abuse becomes public, communities are often left asking difficult questions: How could this happen here? What does it mean for our children? And what can we do to prevent it from happening again?

This two-part webinar series brings together experts in prevention, law, victim advocacy, and child protection to help communities understand the realities of abuse today and explore meaningful ways to respond.

Part 1: Understanding Child Sexual Abuse Today

The internet has created new ways for children to be harmed and exploited, often in ways many adults do not fully understand. This session will explore the growing issue of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and how online exploitation impacts children, families, and communities.

Panelists will discuss:

  • What child sexual abuse material is and how it harms children
  • How the CyberTipline works and what happens when a report is made
  • How individuals and communities can report suspected exploitation
  • The lasting trauma caused when abuse material is created and shared
  • How the demand for CSAM fuels exploitation and what can be done to reduce it

This conversation will help participants better understand the realities of online exploitation and the role communities play in recognizing and reporting harm. Panelists include experts in law, prevention, and victim advocacy, including representatives from organizations working to end child sexual abuse and online exploitation.
